This paper examines two passages from Toni Morrisons “Black Matters” and Simone De Beauvoir’s “The Second Sex”. The paper aims to exemplify how Morrison’s “Black Matters” can illuminate similarities between the “othering” of women described by Beauvoir to the similar treatment of African Americans shown by Morrison.
